Growing up in Mexico City, Richard Sandoval joined his grandmother in the kitchen and around her large table to enjoy lively Mexican feasts prepared from scratch. His grandmother taught him to respect authentic ingredients and create the vibrant flavors that turned family dinners into celebrated events. With lessons in service management from his restaurateur father, Richard first opened two French restaurants in New York, then returned to his roots to open Maya, his flagship modern Mexican restaurant more than 30 years ago.
